Box Making

A custom-made box is frequently the best solution for problems with fragile books and documents, and for archival long-term storage of any book or document.There are several varieties.  The most secure, protective, archival, and non-damaging container is the CLAMSHELL BOX. Sometimes termed the “drop spine box”, the “two tray box”, or the “Solander box”, this elegant, durable container is custom made for perfect fit, protecting a book or object from the damaging effects of sunlight, ultraviolet light, and from fluctuations of temperature and humidity .

A box may be of a simple design, covered in sturdy, attractive cloth, or rather more deluxe, covered entirely or in part with leather, perhaps with a rounded, book-like, spine piece, or perhaps raised bands for an especially elegant or antiquarian appearance.
